Mold Toxicity Testing
Mold Toxicity: Symptoms & Health Effects
Mold toxicity occurs when you’re exposed to harmful mold spores or mycotoxins, often in damp or poorly ventilated environments. It can trigger both allergic and inflammatory responses, especially in people with weakened immune systems or mold sensitivities. Symptoms can be extreme for very sensitive people.
Common symptoms include:
- Cognitive issues: brain fog, memory problems, anxiety
- Respiratory symptoms: coughing, wheezing, sinusitis
- Skin reactions: rashes, itching
- Digestive issues: bloating, food intolerance
- Fatigue: persistent tiredness interfering with daily life
- Neurological signs: dizziness, tinnitus, numbness
- Hormonal imbalances: hair loss, mood changes, excessive thirst
These symptoms can mimic other conditions, making mold toxicity hard to diagnose without proper testing.
How to Test for Mold Toxicity in the Body
There are several ways to assess mold exposure and toxicity:
- Symptom Checklists
Start with a detailed symptom review and environmental history (e.g., exposure to water damage, musty odors, etc.) noting any and all reactions or health changs.
- Urine Mycotoxin Testing
Detects mold toxins like ochratoxins, aflatoxins, and trichothecenes.
- Blood Tests
Look for immune and inflammatory markers:
- VIP, MSH, MMP-9, C4a, TGF-beta-1
- IgE/IgG antibodies for mold
- Hormonal and nutrient imbalances
- Gut and Cortisol Testing
Mold can disrupt gut health and stress hormone regulation. Complete hormone panels as well as gut microbiome testing are recommended.
- Nasal Swabs or Cultures are used to detect mold colonization in the sinuses.
- Facility testing for mold particulate matter. This is a great way to determine a baseline for any water damaged building or facility. It is recommended to utilize these before and after any remediation.

My wife was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer almost 2 years ago and we have seen a significant turnaround in her response to the chemotherapy and immunotherapy that she has been receiving for over a year and a half year with only slight changes but after starting with Atlanta Integrative and Internal Medicine, we have seen her numbers drop, many of the tumors she had when we started with them are now gone and the remaining tumor she has is down by 85%. The entire team is incredible and does whatever they can to help you in your time of need and I cannot recommend them enough.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Cardwell totally changed my life! He helped me return to a normal immune system & life after living in a house with mold. It took time/driving but it was so worth it! I can confidently say I’ve never met a doctor that has cared so much and helped with every health issue with patience and vast knowledge. He is a true gem and I am so grateful to him and Atlanta Integrative & Internal Medicine. They are all so warm and lovely for IVs, etc and make you feel like family. It’s how visiting the doctor should be!Posted on Google![]()

After a bout of strep, I developed a rash and went to both my GP and derm who each prescribed me oral and topical steroids. Topical helped while using, but it would come back when I stopped and I was diagnosed with psoriasis. I went to AIIM and saw Jessica Caspar, APRN. She suggested ozone IVs and gave me ozonated olive oil. Within a few days of using the cream, my skin looks dramatically better! I am very hopeful and glad to not be relying on steroids. Highly recommend Jessica!Posted on Google![]()

This has been a good experience. Dr. Patel is kind and takes time to explain things. I have learned more about my health here than at any other time in my life. The only downside is that all expense is out of pocket.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Cardwell has been treating me for the past five years. He is by far one of the best doctors I have seen. His level of compassion and the time he takes with his patients is something you very rarely see these days. I have some complicated issues and he has spent a lot of time researching what issues I am experiencing to help find a cure. I would recommend Dr. Cardwell and his staff to anyone.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
