Metabolic Syndrome, also known Syndrome X or insulin resistance, is characterized by abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides, low HDL (good) cholesterol, hypertension and abnormal blood glucose levels.
A complete physical is available to all patients with metabolic syndrome and can include but is not limited to the following:
- Medical history
- Physical assessment
- Body Mass Index assessment
There is no standard list of laboratory testing since each person is unique, however, there are basic tests recommended for all patients with metabolic syndrome. These include:
- CBC-blood cell analysis
- UA-urine analysis
- Electrolyte analysis
- Liver function tests
- Kidney function
- Fasting blood sugar
- Fasting insulin
- Blood proteins
- Comprehensive Cholesterol testing (Total, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, VLDL)
- Vitamin D level (25-OH Vitamin D)
- Hemoglobin A1c
In addition, there are other specialty tests available from Metametrix, DiagnosTechs, Spectracell, and others for blood, saliva, hair, and stool studies. These tests will be individualized for your condition after full consideration.
