Our Services
Gastrointestinal (GI) Health
At Atlanta Integrative & Internal Medicine, we take a unique and holistic approach to gastrointestinal health, recognizing the deep connection between the digestive system and overall well-being. Imbalances in the GI tract can show up not only as digestive discomfort but also as symptoms in the nervous system, immune system, skin, mood, and energy levels.
Our naturopathic doctors focus on treating the whole person, seeking to uncover and address the root causes of symptoms—especially in patients who have not responded well to other therapies.
Common GI Conditions We See and Treat
GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease)
GERD occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation and symptoms like heartburn, regurgitation, and sometimes chest pain. Untreated GERD can lead to inflammation, narrowing of the esophagus, or even precancerous changes. We work to identify the root triggers—such as food sensitivities, gut motility issues, or hiatal hernia—and address them naturally whenever possible.
IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
IBS is a non-inflammatory, functional condition affecting the colon, often triggered by diet, stress, or gut-brain axis dysfunction. It can present as IBS-D (diarrhea), IBS-C (constipation), or IBS-M (mixed). Our team uses functional testing and personalized nutrition to rebalance the gut and restore comfort.
IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
This includes Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease, both of which involve chronic inflammation in the digestive tract. Left unchecked, IBD can cause tissue damage and increase colon cancer risk. Our providers use integrative therapies to address immune dysfunction, lower inflammation, and promote healing.
Dysbiosis
An imbalance in gut microbiota can cause bloating, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, and even weight changes. We use advanced stool testing, breath tests, and organic acid tests to detect imbalances and create individualized rebalancing protocols.
Gastritis
Inflammation of the stomach lining, caused by factors like H. pylori infection, food sensitivities, stress, or long-term medication use. It can increase ulcer risk and cause discomfort after eating. We focus on restoring mucosal health and addressing triggers.
Indigestion, Gas, & Bloating
Characterized by bloating, nausea, or fullness after meals, indigestion may be linked to low stomach acid, food sensitivities, stress, or poor enzyme production. We identify the underlying cause and support optimal digestion naturally.
Gallstones
These hardened deposits can block bile ducts, causing pain and digestion issues. We aim to support bile flow, reduce recurrence, and coordinate with specialists if surgical care is needed.
Peptic & Duodenal Ulcers
Caused by erosion of the stomach or small intestine lining, often due to H. pylori infection or long-term NSAID use. We support tissue repair and address root causes to prevent recurrence.
Constipation
Often due to diet, low metabolism, dehydration, or stress. We investigate and treat the specific cause while restoring healthy bowel motility.
Diarrhea
Frequent loose stools can result from infections, food intolerances, stress, medications, or inflammatory conditions. Chronic diarrhea can cause nutrient loss, dehydration, and imbalanced gut flora. Our approach focuses on identifying the cause and restoring digestive balance.
Parasitosis
Parasitic infections in the GI tract—such as Giardia, Entamoeba, or roundworms—can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, and malnutrition. We use advanced stool testing for detection and integrative protocols for elimination and gut repair.
Hepatitis A, B, C, D
These viral infections affect the liver, which plays a central role in digestion by producing bile to break down fats. Hepatitis can impair bile production, disrupt digestion, cause jaundice, and contribute to nausea, fatigue, and abdominal pain. We work alongside conventional care to support liver function and recovery.
Autoimmune-Related GI Conditions
Conditions such as Celiac Disease, Autoimmune Gastritis, or autoimmune-related liver and bile duct diseases involve the immune system attacking the GI tract. This can cause chronic inflammation, nutrient malabsorption, and systemic effects. Our care focuses on calming immune overactivity, repairing the gut lining, and addressing potential environmental or dietary triggers.

My wife was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer almost 2 years ago and we have seen a significant turnaround in her response to the chemotherapy and immunotherapy that she has been receiving for over a year and a half year with only slight changes but after starting with Atlanta Integrative and Internal Medicine, we have seen her numbers drop, many of the tumors she had when we started with them are now gone and the remaining tumor she has is down by 85%. The entire team is incredible and does whatever they can to help you in your time of need and I cannot recommend them enough.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Cardwell totally changed my life! He helped me return to a normal immune system & life after living in a house with mold. It took time/driving but it was so worth it! I can confidently say I’ve never met a doctor that has cared so much and helped with every health issue with patience and vast knowledge. He is a true gem and I am so grateful to him and Atlanta Integrative & Internal Medicine. They are all so warm and lovely for IVs, etc and make you feel like family. It’s how visiting the doctor should be!Posted on Google![]()

After a bout of strep, I developed a rash and went to both my GP and derm who each prescribed me oral and topical steroids. Topical helped while using, but it would come back when I stopped and I was diagnosed with psoriasis. I went to AIIM and saw Jessica Caspar, APRN. She suggested ozone IVs and gave me ozonated olive oil. Within a few days of using the cream, my skin looks dramatically better! I am very hopeful and glad to not be relying on steroids. Highly recommend Jessica!Posted on Google![]()

This has been a good experience. Dr. Patel is kind and takes time to explain things. I have learned more about my health here than at any other time in my life. The only downside is that all expense is out of pocket.Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Cardwell has been treating me for the past five years. He is by far one of the best doctors I have seen. His level of compassion and the time he takes with his patients is something you very rarely see these days. I have some complicated issues and he has spent a lot of time researching what issues I am experiencing to help find a cure. I would recommend Dr. Cardwell and his staff to anyone.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
