We are learning more about Covid-19 daily, and the following presents some published literature about nutrition and immune system. None of the following are intended to treat or cure Covid-19, but rather simple tips one can implement in their lives for health optimization!

For starters, nutrition can be your enemy or best friend. Based on some of the references provided below, “keeping foods that are good sources of immune-protective nutrients, planning times to eat meals, portions, and having a cutoff time for eating could be helpful to tackle the negative health effects of quarantine.”
Specific nutrients that can help increase antioxidant status:

  • Vitamin C: bell peppers, oranges, strawberries, broccoli, mangoes, lemons, etc.
  • Beta-carotene: sweet potatoes, carrots, green leafy vegetables
  • Vitamin E: nuts, seeds, spinach, broccoli
  • Zinc: nuts, pumpkin and sesame seeds, beans, lentils
  • Selenium: brazil nuts

In general, eat mindfully, chew your food, try not to lay or slouch after a meal, and keep the other essentials on the slate. What other essentials? Well…. hydration, sleep and movement!
